Less than 3% of golfers have access to a caddie.
That fun fact comes courtesy of the team at Arccos Golf.
Strip out all of the cloud computing, GPS, and round tracking stuff, and fundamentally what Arccos is doing is trying to boost those percentages. Arccos wants all of us to have access to a caddie. And we’re not talking about just any caddie; we’re talking about a statistically-driven caddie who knows every detail of your game; your precise distances, miss percentages, and other tendencies.
Arccos wants to give you the kind of caddie that can help you get the most out of your game and shoot lower scores.
If you follow the digital tech side of golf closely, you may have noticed a decline in new golf tech recently. Swing trainer innovations have waned, and even the round tracking/analytics space has plateaued a bit. Short of Cobra Connect (FREE with every new Cobra Driver), there hasn’t been much to get excited about. Arccos Caddie isn’t just an exception; it’s one of the most feverishly anticipated new golf tech releases of 2017.
We’ve been waiting for Arccos Caddie to launch since we saw a demo at the PGA Show in late January. If you’ve been waiting too, or even if you’re just hearing about it for the first time, good news, Arccos Caddie arrives on May 22nd.
What Is Arccos Caddie?
To borrow from the Arccos-provided marketing speak, "powered by the Microsoft Azure Cloud, Arccos Caddie uses advanced analytics to help golfers shoot lower scores by making smarter decisions."
Super. But what does it actually do?
In simple terms, Arccos Caddie is an add-on to the GEN1 and Arccos 360 platforms that takes your past performance data and uses it to make strategy and situational club recommendations.
It works for any hole in the world, and in addition to your data, it also factors in elevation and based on forecast data, temperature, wind speed, and more.
For every hole, it recommends a strategy (club selection), and provides you with the odds of making par, and hitting the fairway. It also lays out your chances of missing right or left.
On Par 3s, Arccos Caddie swaps fairway percentage for GIR percentage and also includes miss percentages by quadrant (long, short, left, right). The app gives you the option of further customizing your experience by dragging the tee box and hole to their precise locations.
Arccos Caddie looks at a variety of factors and recommends the strategy and ultimately the club that will give you the best chance for success. Arccos is constantly in your ear…or at least at your fingertips. How you use the information is up to you.
Availability
Arccos Caddie will be available for download beginning May 22. For users with a minimum of 5 rounds in the system (the minimum amount of data required for Arccos Caddie to make recommendations), there will be a free promo period from May 22nd until May 31st. After that, the price is $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year (including a 1-month, no obligation trial period).
The USGA has not yet issued a ruling regarding the use of Arccos Caddie.
