The Queen of Copper
Putterholics, a group that I’m proud to associated myself with, always seem to pay a bit more attention when copper construction is mentioned. It’s an interesting phenomenon. I’m not totally sure if the copper love comes from it’s unique feel, or from the face that it’s just not a common inclusion in today’s putter offerings.
Sure, there are companies out there still working in copper, but not many, and you can bet that anything done in copper will have a not insignificant upgrade charge.
Sam Bettinardi and I had a nice chat last week, and as soon as he said that this limited edition Queen B 6 was going to have a copper insert, I knew it was something that I had to share with all of you.
Here’s Sam giving you the rundown about the QB6 LE:
Specifications: Bettinardi QB6 LE
- Material: Soft Carbon Steel
- Insert: Pure Metallic 110 Copper
- Face Milling: Super-Fly Mill

In my world, $650 is a lot to spend on anything. If I’m going to spend $650 on a putter, it better be amazing. It would also probably need to come with an apartment. Once my wife checks the accounts, I’m looking for a new place to live.
Truthfully though, there are stock putters in your local shop that can set you back $400, so spending another $250 for something unique isn’t that outrageous.
I’ll let you know how that line of reasoning works with the Mrs.
So what do you get for your $650?
Tour Winning Head - The Queen B Model 6 is currently in the bag of LPGA pro Lexi Thompson. PGA pro Steven Bowditch used a Queen B 6 to win the Byron Nelson back in 2015. Granted, tour pro usage doesn’t guarantee that a putter is good, but there’s little argument that consumers see tour usage as a sign of credibility.
That said, I don’t need a tour pro to know that I love the wide-body and high-toe topline design. The blockier/square profile at address definitely suits my eye.
Milled Copper Insert - I love that Bettinardi went with raw copper for the Queen Bee 6’s insert. It will patina over time and develop all kinds of cool colors during play. The copper should soften up the feel at impact when you roll balls on the course. That’s right, I said roll balls on the course with the limited edition putter. My hope of hopes is that whoever buys these will game them. It’s nice looking enough to be a wall hanger, but it really needs to get some grass on it, and have that face patina. Please game it, please...
Limited Number Produced- Let’s face it, for some, the pure fact that only 200 of these are out there is a selling point. Bagging a QB6 LE right away gives your something in your golf bag that others just won’t have. Maybe you like this because it feeds your ego a bit, or maybe you play as a single a bunch and a unique putter is a great opening topic for conversations with the strangers you are playing with.
The choice to make only 200 of these creates a bit of artificial scarcity (it’s not like Bettinardi couldn’t make more), but it still helps to add to the value of the release. Many, myself included, see value in the uniqueness, believing that there is just something cool about having something rare in the bag. That may not be the case for you, but I know it matters for others.
Did he say The Hive?
If you listened closely to the video, you probably heard Sam mention that these would be available on March 30th for sale at Bettinardi authorized dealers and at The Hive. If you are unfamiliar with The Hive, it’s the section of the Bettinardi website (here) where Bettinardi sells limited edition gear. So far it offerings have been limited to putters and wedges, but rumor is that it will be expanding.
There’s even a chance that I know more about the Hive than I am saying, and there might be some forthcoming information that will make putter lovers swoon.
Anyway, enjoy some more shots of the QB6 LE below, and if you buy one, please game it and send me shots of the cool colors that develop on the face.
